"Love State Farm. Not in love with this office. I have a unique situation that requires a knowledgeable person regarding a negligent dog owner. I called this office and explained my situation to the agent that answered. He said he made a call and then told me there was nothing State Farm could do for me. I asked to have my call escalated to someone more experienced in this office and was transferred to Robert, the office manager. I was transferred after the agent “told him” what was going on. Either the agent made errors, or Robert wasn’t listening…or both. During this conversation, Robert said that I can’t file a claim for “injuring myself.” What?! Where did that even come from?! I called this office because I wasn’t sure what my options were regarding the incident. I was counting on this office to care enough to help me dig deep and figure out the next step. He repeatedly told me there was nothing I could do, nor that they would do based on the information I have. Eventually, he said “You could file a claim.” And then immediately alluded to it probably not going anywhere because I didn’t have the names of the party and only their address. That was the first time I had heard about filing a claim. He told me that if I file it and it doesn’t go anywhere, then I would be penalized in the future. I asked him why he would discourage me from filing a claim. He told me he wasn’t. I quoted what he said to me and that by definition, he was discouraging me from filing a claim. He then started to tell me about how he was doing his job by trying to “help me” avoid being penalized for a claim what probably wouldn’t go anywhere. He then started to explain that if in the future, I go to buy a home, etc. then it will count against me. He became very defensive when I called him on his _____. I told him I wanted a call back from the owner of the office and to be transferred to the claims department. I spoke to an agent in the claims department, shared all the details of my conversation with her and she told me the misinformation Robert gave me was basically bogus and that I wouldn’t be penalized if a claim was denied. Robert had also said that with only having the address, no police report, etc. that there isn’t anything renter’s insurance will do. Also, false. The agent in claims stated this agent had no business speaking to the claims process, the likelihood of outcome, etc. I have filed a formal complaint with State Farm. I have already moved my policy to a different office. Update: Received a call back from the owner of this office. to smooth things over. Honestly, seems like a nice guy. But the fact is, the way my initial call was handled was not okay. He told me that if they don’t discourage someone from making a claim when they “should have” …then they get yelled at by clients years later. I was also told that where I moved my policy to, the person only has six years of experience compared to his twenty-six. I don’t care so long as my new office is respectful to me and my time. Additional Update: Received ANOTHER call from Mr. Stroman. He called because of my review, concerned that there was a misunderstanding. He said that aside from calling him a nice guy, that I basically "blew him up". I told him that I didn't "blow him up"...it was his office that I have a problem with. He started to "argue his case"...with a complete disregard for my time. Which...I actually already called out. He told me that whoever told me that I should call my insurance company didn't know what they were talking about. I told him I don't have time for this and hung up. Incredibly unprofessional. Here's the deal...my opinion is that. It's what I think. There are 279 other opinions on here and they average 4.7 stars. This means that in the grand scheme of things...my opinion of this office is very different than that of others. That's the beauty of Google. "Gross incompetence all the way around here. Save yourself the pain of listening to ambiguous excuses and unexplainable cost increases. I expect a McDonald's worker to know what's on a big mac much like I expect a State Farm agent to know State Farm policies and billing. I guess those expectations are just too high. If high prices and lowered expectations are your thing, this is the agency for you."
